Nursing
Lis Grimsey
My name is Lis Grimsey and I am delighted to have been elected as
the Nursing Representative for ABS. I am the Consultant Nurse
in the Breast Unit at East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust where I have
been in post for over 9 years.
I have been working in breast care for approaching 20 years.
From 1992 I worked at the Royal Marsden Hospital as the
Sister in the Breast Diagnostic Unit. It was here I learnt to
examine breasts and perform fine needle aspirations. In 1994
I took up the position of Specialist Nurse Practitioner at St
George's Healthcare NHS Trust where I developed my skills further
and ran nurse led clinics. Whilst working at St George's I
undertook a Masters in Advanced Clinic Practice in Cancer Nursing
at Surrey University. In 2002 I was appointed as one of the
first Consultant Nurses in breast care in the UK. I run
nurse-led clinics for new and follow up patients as well as running
the family history risk assessment clinics. I am also
involved at strategic level.
I have spoken at national and international conferences on the
role of the nurse practitioner in breast care and have been
involved with the RCN in producing documentation regarding the
extended role of the nurse. I have also helped guide and
develop others in their nurse practitioner roles. I have had
several publications in text books and journals.
I am looking forward to being the nurse representative for the ABS
and being a strong voice representing both breast care nurses and
the ever growing numbers of nurse practitioners.
